Children Behave as well as they are Treated
If such regressive disciplinary methods are used in an elite school like La Martiniere, god save the children in all the modest schools scattered around the country, where a large chunk of the millions of school goers find themselves in.

We are seeking to bring together all past students of La Martiniere Schools. We plan to bring news and reports from the institutions and news of old friends their activities and whereabouts. We are the voice of Old Martinians wherever they may be. We report on reunions around the world and welcome new visitors. We present a forum where views can be expressed and tales can be told.

The Girls’ School: An Overall View

The first discrimination was actually shown by those who drew up the Constitution of the school. It must have been quite welcome. Corporal punishment was not be resorted to in the case of girls beyond eleven years of age. Caning, I understand, continued to be effected in the Boys’ school till the sixties of the present century and I have heard many a parent lamenting the fact that it was given up then.

La Marts not to sack principal, middle school head.

Reacting to the school’s decision, NCPCR representatives said they had taken serious note of its attitude and wanted to see their recommendations implemented, to check corporal punishment in schools across the country.

In the following year at the Founder’s Day annual dinner 17 old Martinians and three guests namely George Jackson, a Governor of the College, W.E. Andrews and J.G.Taylor were present and after dinner, on the proposal of C.F. Gilbert, seconded by Hubert Bolst, the Old BoysAssociation was formed.

And so the La Martiniere Girls School came into being, with Mr.W.Robinson, officiating Principal of La Martiniere College as Hony.Secretary and Miss Dixon the first Lady Superintendent. The results of the amalgamation were immediately felt. From 18 on the roll of the Lucknow Girls’ School, the numbers immediately jumped to 48.

The state government has ordered the construction of a weir — a small dam — on the Gomti near La Martiniere Boys College ground in order to ensure that there is enough water through the year in the 2-km stretch of the river downstream of the Gomti barrage.

Twenty-five years after the artist completed her first graffiti wall in Kolkata—an inoffensive portrayal of teen life outside La Martiniere for Girls school—the many walls Lahiri has painted since then have reminded viewers of a subtler sensibility in a city scribbled with aggressive political graffiti.

Early in 1871 the writer was admitted to the school on the Foundation and was a school-boy till September 1878, when he had a shot for the Roorkee College Entrance Examination
