Keshva Chandra Takes Over as Member Mechanical, Railway Board
Shri Keshav Chandra has taken over as new Member Mechanical, Railway Board and ex-officio Secretary to Government of India.. Prior to this new posting, he served as General Manager, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Guwahati. However, he will continue to hold the post of GM, NFR Railway in addition to his present post until further orders.
An officer of the 1975 batch of Indian Railway Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), Shri Chandra held various key positions on different Zonal Railways. Shri Chandra worked as Additional General Manager in two of the biggest Railways viz East Central Railway (Hajipur) and
Northern Railway (New Delhi).
During his career, he worked as Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala Division of Northern Railway. He has also worked as Executive Director, RDSO, the research arm of Indian Railways, and headed both the Testing and Quality Assurance Directorates. He is credited with first set of successful trials for DMRC rakes and their subsequent clearance and helping introduce the concept of technical Quality Audit on Indian Railways. He also worked as Railway Advisor for Europe (Based in Berlin) and is well versed with the latest railway technologies and is credited with having brought several new technologies closer to home.
Shri Keshav Chandra who is a product of
La Martiniere College, Lucknow graduated from IRIMEE, Jamalpur. He is known for maintaining excellent man-management relations. He has been associated with the voluntary Blood Donation Movement in the country. Having donated blood some 80 times since 1976, Shri Chandra has also written a paper, titled ‘Donate Once In A Life Time’ (DOIALT) scheme which advocates that f every healthy Indian was to donate blood only once in a lifetime, the shortage of safe blood in the country would be wiped out. He has been a keen sportsman and has authored a book “One track Mind’ released by Bishen Singh Bedi in 2002.

Vijay Mallya: Who is he?
Vijay Mallya is an Indian liquor and airline baron . The son of industrialist Vittal Mallya, he is the chairman of the United Breweries Group and Kingfisher Airlines. Vijay Mallya is also an MP in the Indian Rajya Sabha.
He also co-owns the Formula One team Force India, the Indian Premier League team Bangalore Royal Challengers,the I-League teams Mohun Bagan A.C and East Bengal FC.
Mallya's letter follows a threat of strike by the Kingfisher employees demanding to clear the backlog of their salaries. The employees were, however, quick to reject the offer.
According to Forbes, his personal wealth is estimated to be $1 billion. He receives substantial press coverage that focuses on his lavish parties, villas, automobiles, Force India, Royal Challengers Bangalore and his yacht, the Indian Empress.
Mallya was educated at La Martiniere Calcutta, where he was a House Captain in the '72 batch, and at St. Xavier's College, Calcutta, which he graduated from in '75 with a B. Comm degree.
He later set up business ventures in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Mallya's first wife was Sameera and they have a son together, named Siddharth Mallya. Later on, Mallya married Rekha with whom he has two daughters: Leiana and Tanya Mallya. Rekha has
a daughter from a previous marriage: Laila.
Vijay Mallya is noted for his successful bidding in auction of items that are considered of great historical value to India. In 2004, he placed the winning bid of £175,000 for the sword of Tipu Sultan at an auction in London, and brought it back to India.
In March 2009, he successfully bid for the belongings of Mahatma Gandhi at US$1.8 million, in a New York auction that initially caused an uproar in India and its government tried and failed to prevent it from going under the hammer.
